What can cities teach us about our societies?

When: 15 May

Location: Future Cities Catapult, 1 Sekforde St, London EC1R 0BE

Cities and urban centres have always been crucial for political action and active citizenship. As the world’s urban population is predicted to grow to 70% by 2050, this talk at Museum of Architecture seeks to examine different perspectives and strategies in urban development that put citizens at their centre.

To understand what the challenges and opportunities are, speakers from different backgrounds will share examples of different forms of social, political, and economic engagement of citizens through the urban fabric.

White Arkitekter’s Krister Lindstedt will talk about White’s work with the masterplan for Kiruna, a mining town in north Sweden that has to be relocated two miles to the east due to mining activity.

Other speakers at the event include Gemma Ginty (Chair), Future Cities Catapult, Ben Adams, Ben Adams Architects, Kelvin Campbell, Smart Urbanism and Hannah Griffiths, Future Cities Catapult
