Naturum Vattenriket has been shortlisted for WAF

Kristianstad Wetlands Visitor Centre, Naturum Vattenriket, has been shortlisted for a World Architecture Festival Award in the Display and Visitor centres category. World Architecture Festival takes place in Barcelona from November 2nd to 4 th.

In the midst of the hard-to-reach wetlands of the River Helge, yet on the doorstep of Kristianstad in the south of Sweden, lies Naturum Vattenriket (Wetlands). Just a few hundred metres from the city centre, the distinctive outline of the visitor centre forms an unmistakable landmark. Naturum Vattenriket is recognised by UNESCO as a biosphere reserve. The building erected on piles offers spectacular views of the bird lake.

The flat delta landscape and its vegetation have been the major source of inspiration for the project. A building that reinforces the experience of the wetlands, without disrupting the local wildlife. By crossing bridges you reach the centre from different directions. Where the bridges meet, they bend, pause and transform. This encircling of the vegetation creates the nest, hidden in the reeds.
