White has developed supporting documents for a detailed development plan containing 1,600 partments in a number of limited competitions on behalf of the Municipality of Gothenburg and Älvstranden Utveckling AB.

Kvillebäcken will have a high sustainable profile and be in the frontline of sustainable city development. Ecological aspects, low energy buildings, improved social standard and traffic solutions are important issues. The area is surrounded by dense traffic roads, so it will be important to find solutions for noise barriers, and assure that all apartments have at least one quiet side.

White is appointed as Sustainability Manager for the development. A steering group has been formed, consisting of representatives from the municipality and developers. Guidelines and targets for the development are formulated in a Sustainability Programme, including social, economical and environmental aspects. It also includes methods for follow-up and reporting.

The seven developers have signed an agreement that they will follow the Sustainability Programme and that they will have to report the results and efforts made during the project.

The programme has been developed in an iterative process, initially based on workshops. Risk analysis of the consequences if the sustainability targets can not be achieved has also been performed.
