Surface Design Awards 2013 to Southend Pier

Southend Pier Cultural Centre by White arkitekter and Sprunt wins the Public Building Exterior category in the Surface Design Awards 2013. The winners were announced yesterday on the final day of the Surface Design Show at the Business Design Centre in London.

Launched to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Surface Design Show, the awards recognise progressive surface solutions for the built environment. Sited at the end of a 1.34 mile-long pier, Southend Pier Cultural Centre features durable surface materials, including Glass Reinforced Plastic cladding and insulated marine plywood decking covered with a waterproof membrane, to help achieve a long expected lifespan under hostile conditions.
